Default 2012 Outlander oil change and general service

Hi, I'm relatively mechanically inclined and would like to change the oil on my 2012 Outlander 4cy non-Sport.

Is there already documentation you can point me to for an end-user to change the oil with a basic set of tools?

If not, is the oil filter easily accessible? Would you confirm that it takes 5q of 0W-20 synthetic?

Would you recommend a filter?

It has 62k+ miles on it. I've done regular maintenance thus far, but is there anything specific I should do at 60k?

No one has any tips on getting started with changing the oil on an Outlander?

Is the filter easily accessible with a tool while laying on my back with the car on ramps?

I don't have the 4 cyl, so wouldn't know...but likely is pretty easy. most oil changes are.

Mitsubishi's site does have maintenance schedule on their site, if I remember correctly.

I have a 2010 Outie. I get 5qt Mobil 1 5w-20 and Mobil 1 filter M1-104. This is very easy process. Everything is easily accessible. I don't even lift my car. Just make sure your car is on level ground for best results.

Tools:

1. 17mm or 22mm (or whichever fits. i forget the oil drain plug size lol.)
2. Oil Filter Wrench
3. Oil Drip Pan

Steps: Get under the car.

1. Open the Oil Cap.
2. Remove Oil Drain Plug. It's the black one on your right if you are lying under the car looking up. Should be located towards the rear of that black pan.
3. Drain oil. Make sure you let all the oil drain. You get better results if your car is in normal operating temp. Don't worry, the oil will not burn you, but it's hot, unless you're a sissy. lol.
4. Keep draining until no more hair line drip.
5. Remove Oil Filter. It's towards the front of the engine. Remove and replace with new.
6. When the oil is done draining, replace the Oil Drain Plug and tighten til snug then give it a little "umph", but do not overtighten.
7. You are done under the car. Go up to the engine bay.
8. Pull up the Oil Dip Stick a tad. This will act as a release port when you're pouring in the oil.
9. Fill with oil and you're done!

I put the whole 5qt jug then use the same jug for the used oil and drop off to my local auto parts store for recycling.

Thanks so much for putting this together. Based on your information, it appears it actually may be cheaper to have my car guy do it. He charges me $33, that's very nearly the cost of the oil and filter.

Last time I bought oil+filter, I don't think it was more than $15 combined, lol

That's cool. Is that fot a full synthetic? How often do you change oil?

No, I meant it's been a really long time since I've done it myself - I've always just taken it to be serviced every 3000 or 4000 miles (can't remember which; just go by the sticker in the window :-)
