Default Buying an Outlander 2011

Hello guys, new here.
I'm thinking about buying a 2011 Outlander ES 4WD with 27k miles (45 000 km) on it.
My concern is that it is an individual selling it...and not a dealer. I don't know why he is selling it but should I consider it?
I mean in any event, the bumper to bumper warranty still applies until 2016 so even if there is anything wrong I can get it fixed.
My previous and first car was a 2001 so I'm a bit nervous.
Thanks.

I have a 2011 SE with 52Kmi on it and no issues to speak of. Just got my recall notice in the mail about the main drive belt and pulley though. Check to see if there's any service history on it. Did they do any work to it? My only gripe is the CVT transmission. I still can't get used to it and end up using the paddle shifters quite a bit going up hills. Mine is also has the 4WD option and I love it. It's not the S-AWC version, but it still works great off-road and in the snow.

Just dig into the service records and make sure that warranty is transferable.

Thanks for the reply.
I asked the guy about service records and he said he did all the maintenance himself.

I guess my other option is to get it inspected by a Mitsubishi dealer for 99$.

Or I can rely on the warranty. Anyways I'm going to see it tomorrow, just worried about buying it from someone instead of the dealership...

As long as it's been maintained with proper fluids, and at the proper intervals, it should be fine. 45000km is not a lot of use. Ask what's been done service-wise. And check that against the 2011 service manual stickied on the forum root.

Private sales are always cheaper than dealers, and remember dealers asking prices are often thousands more than what a car will sell for. Find out wholesale pricing before you negotiate on the car, and if you come to an agreement on price, definitely get it inspected before you complete the transaction. Also get a car-fax/carpool as there maybe be an accident you'd want to know about, or a lien on the car somewhere which would supersede your ownership.

Saw the car today. Looks good and the 10 years drivetrain warranty is transferable, and so is the new vehicle warranty until 2016.
The car is 2011 and he is the first/only owner. But there aren't any service records he said he did all the maintenance himself.
If I decide to finalize the deal I don't wanna spend 100$ to do an inspection since the warranty still applies...what you guys think?

As it was mentioned before, get a car-fax/carpool report to check for accidents.

You're going to spend $20k on a car (guessing), but you don't want to pony up $100 to see if it's got problems before you buy it? It is money well spent.

Definitely get it inspected, preferably at a Mitsubishi dealer. Ask if it appears to be well maintained, or if there are areas of concern. Ask them if it still qualifies for warranty (must be maintained properly to maintain warranty). Even better if they'll write that expert opinion down for your records.

$100 is just a drop in the bucket in ensuring you have a reliable and well-maintained vehicle. DO IT and stop second guessing yourself.

Did you make any modifications that might have triggered this?

Seems highly unusual for an ECU to fail. The whole car would likely fail if the ECU went out.
