Change Engine Coolant

Hey Guys,

Recently I was bored and I've looked over the service schedule booklet for my 2009 Outlander. Basically my question is, when should the first coolant replacement happen? According to the Mitsubishi booklet, both, regular maintenance and severe maintenance show it at 60,000 miles. For some reason, the severe maintenance doesn't show it at 30,000 miles. Is this a misprint? Because after 60,000 miles, in severe maintenance it is recommended to do after each 30,000 miles. What makes the first 60,000 miles so special that later on it is recommended to do after each 30,000? Also, my car has 35,000 miles (never changed the coolant) and I've tested the coolant with Cool-Trak strips and the pH levels still look very good.

Also, my Outlander is AWD, at 30,000 severe maintenance Mitsu recommends changing the differential fluid and to check the rear axle oil level, isn't that the same thing?

They say to change the transfer case fluid and check the level of the rear differential. I didn't bother with the check, changed them both at that time.

I change gear oil and differential fluid every 40k, and I change coolant every two years.

Hi I want to change engine coolant myself in my 2010 Outlander.
Do you know if I can use Prestone 50/50 antifreeze coolant ?

Buy Prestone 50/50 Ready-to-Use Prediluted Extended Life Antifreeze/Coolant AF2100 at Advance Auto Parts

Thanks for any suggestions.

I am also interested in substitutes for the Mitsubishi coolant.

Zerex and Peak Lifetime Global will work in ours. I used Peak.

I understand that I can use Peak fluid, but ... Can I use Prestone radiator fluid that is my auto store in my Outlander ?

Without knowing what it does or does not have, I would highly recommend not going that route.

I do know the two I mentioned are correct fluids. Zerex can be found at NAPA stores. Peak is found at O'Reilley's & Advance Auto Parts...in my neck of the woods.

Thank you for your answer.
When I was at the store last night I was comparing ingredient label on different types of Antifreeze. All 50/50 mixes had the same ingredient, Advance Auto, Prestone , and other brands.
Do you basically pay for the brand ? Looks to me like its the same stuff, just different label.
