Have an '04 Outlander AWD. If I accelerate, take my foot off the gas for a moment, then hit the gas again, I get a clunk from the rear of the vehicle. Anyone have this happen and know what the cause is?

Could be rear diff mounts, or perhaps something suspension related. Get under it and give the moving components a wiggle with a pry bar.

You may have a broken or loose transmission or mount allowing the engine and transmission to move when your vehicle is shifted into gear or significantly changes speeds. You will have to examine the various mounting points that support the transmission and engine to hold them in place.

Good call, Sebba! I got a check engine light this morning, and the fix required going to the dealer for a PCM reflash. They did an inspection while there, and told me that the differential mounts were worn. They want $500 to replace. Is this a difficult repair, or something that I can do myself?
