Cough n' splutter

Hi all,

Still having a minor issue with my Outlander (2008 D-Di) in so much as once or twice a day the engines gives a slight "cough and splutter". Just like an indication of dirty fuel passing through.

I have changed the fuel filter, air filters, used additive in the fuel to help clean the injectors and bought a better standard diesel....but all to no avail.

Any members have any ideas, or have experienced this on their car?

Not resolved

Hi there,
No never got cured. I have found it slightly less when I use better branded fuel, but not always!

Thank you for the reply mate, It's strange isn't it mine has just started doing it, does it 2-3 times on a 40 mile round trip, I'm going to change the fuel filter, have you already tried this?

Splutter

Hi again...

I have changed the fuel filter (twice!)...made no difference.
Used additives to clean jets etc..... no difference
but in saying that it only does now occur once / twice a day but the drive period can vary.
Sometimes within a few miles but last week I covered over 800 miles and it did it only 3 times...

I have found (but not always) by using a better quality diesel (BP mainly, standard stuff not extra etc)
it does help, and have gone a few weeks with no issue...then it comes back.

I have spoken to mechanics who say it's definitely not glow plugs, I wonder about engine sensors
but have not bothered there yet...

Another thing I find is that after a distance at a good speed, when then slowing is the most likely time
to cause a splutter.....
