Engine shudder

Hi all,
I have 2008 Outlander 2.2 D-DI that suffers a slight engine shudder (similar to a misfire on a petrol engine). This can occur 3-4 times on a 40 mile journey. Its minor, but curious why as the vehicle is 100% otherwise.

Glow plugs are OK (so I am told), I have used fuel additive to clean a bit though with no noticeable results.

Any guidance ???

Could be injector failure.

Check your fuel bowl for water or silty shyte, and change your fuel filter.

Do you have a check engine light?

Avoid using additive. I had a discussion with Bosch Diesel dev group before. Modern Common Rail Diesel Injection has high pressure build up before injection. The additives contains solvent that melts the seal over time. Infact the benefit of CDI is that it atomizes the fuel such that it combust more efficiently. Modern GDI & CDI don't need additives. It shortens the life of the injectors.

As for your shudder. I agree with Sebba's comment.
Use up your tank of diesel and change the fuel filter.
Water content in diesel normally sink to the bottom in wintery condition.

I bet there's a load of **** in it. You may need to change the filter multiple times.

If the filter looks bad, it's probably let some **** get into the injectors and caused a failure.

This is all speculation, of course, until you confirm.
