Default FAST KEY Option Unlock/Lock All Doors/Driver Door Only

I recently purchased a 2012 Outlander Sport. Great vehicle!! I decided to change the unlock/lock feature via the manual to unlock all doors at one press of the button on the front doors. It works fine.

I then decided to change back to unlock the drivers door only with one press of the button and unlock all doors with two presses of the button. However, it appears that you cannot toggle back to factory setting. Once you change to all doors unlocking on first press, you cannot reset.

Has anyone tried this and been successful to return to original setting of one press of the button.

Yes, I've done this. It's a little tricky - the instructions don't say to hold down one of the keys (it says "oress a key for 4-10 seconds and I found it a bit confusing at first). Here's what I do to change this back and forth:

1. Park the car, turn ignition off, move the light switch to "off".
2. Open driver's door, keep it open
3. Press and hold down the lock key for 5 seconds - DO NOT release it or press anything else. Make sure you hold it down for around 5 seconds before you do the next step.
4. Press and hold the unlock button without releasing the lock button; release lock button; release unlock. You should hear a bleep.

It took me a while to do this the first time because I was not holding the lock key down for a full 5 seconds before I did the other steps, but now I've done it a few times, it's a 10 second thing.

If you do the same procedure with holding down UNlock first for 5 seconds, then hold down lock, release unlock and release lock, it changes the number of flashes that you get when you lock and unlock the doors.

Default Fast Key Drivers Door Only

IT WORKS!!!!! I did it in one try following your directions. Thank you so much. I feel safer this way with just the driver's door unlocked on the first push of the button.

Thanks again.

i don't even push any buttons at all. i just keep the key in my pocket.
if i need to get in the car, i just grasp the driver door handle and it opens up but leaves the rest of the doors locked. remember you have a FAST key.

it's different if i have passengers though. that's when i have to press the unlock button twice.

macmanes - glad it helped.

kalayaan - we don't have the bigger Outlander - which I believe does not need button presses. The Outlander Sport (RVR/ASX) has a button on the driver's door handle which could be programmed to open just the driver's door or all four doors. On the Outlander Sport, the passenger door's button always unlocks all four doors. It cannot be programmed to unlock just that door.

The door locks on my 2011 RVR (fastkey system) are my biggest peeve with the car. There are three exterior door lock buttons and all three function differently. Driver door: press once to unlock one door, twice to unlock all doors. Passenger door: press once to unlock all doors. Tailgate press a hundred times if you like, it never unlocks any doors, it only locks them.

Annoying things that have happened so far:
#1 Walked up to the tail gate with parcels. hit the lock button. car beeps but won't unlock. repeated many times and got many beeps. finally dropped all the bags and unlocked the doors from the driver door. I later figured out that the tail gate can be unlocked by just walking up and opening it, as if it were not even locked. (peculiar)

#2 unlocked driver door, got in, started car. Got out of car with engine running, (to warm up). Tried to open tailgate to load parcels. won't unlock. tried to unlock tailgate using remote fob. won't unlock. Tried to open tailgate using exterior lock button on driver door. won't unlock. passenger door. won't unlock. getting angry, opened driver door to unlock the doors using inside switch. Operated inside switch the wrong way and shut the driver door. Now I'm locked out with engine running, fob in pocket. No buttons work anywhere, not even on fob. Had to use emergency key to get into car.
Note to Mitsubishi: If I have the fob in pocket, NEVER deny me access to ANYTHING.
#3 I took out a parcel from the tailgate and closed it. I hit lock and heard the car beeping away at me. I test the tailgate to see if it is locked and it opens. (it always opens, even if locked, remember?) I tried repeatedly to lock the car this way and get the same multiple beeping. I test the driver door and car is not locked. I try to lock it repeatedly and get the same multiple beeping. It won't lock. I'm late for work so I open the door, lock from the inside. Two hours later I go outside to show a coworker my new car. The inside lights are on. eventually I figured out that the snowbrush in the trunk was preventing complete closure of the tailgate. It looked closed, sounded normal, but wasn't quite satisfied. The position of the brush was such that repeated tailgate closings had the same effect.

Due to my lifestyle, I often get out of the running car and attempt to open the tailgate. If locked with the engine running it can only be unlocked from inside. I had to reprogram the driver door to open all doors when pressed, which means the tailgate is now usually unlocked when I need. Thank God this thing doesn't lock doors when placed into drive.

Default Some more info on FAST key for Mitsi

Hi all,

found some more info from mitsi regarding the some what magical behaviour of this system.
Operating Range | Service 411

Here is some general info and programming guff.

https://www.mitsubishicars.com/owners/support/faqs
(look at FAST key)

Here's the prog blurb...

Change the settings by using the buttons on your FAST-key
fob:
Step 1: Press and hold Lock #1 button.
Step 2: While holding down the Lock #1 button, wait four seconds and then Press and
hold Unlock #2 button (do not allow more than ten seconds to pass).
Step 3: Keep holding down both buttons and then release Lock #1 button first.
Step 4: Release Unlock #2 button second.
Repeat the above procedure to return the settings back to the default. If the customer mode does
not work, the dealership can use a specialty tool to modify the settings as required.

Hope this helps someone.
