Its a BB gun... lol but still.
The vinyl itself is cheap, having someone put it on bumps up the price a lil. I guess you have to call around and see where you can get the best deal. It varies a lot.

3M wants people to install it because of the difficulty of getting it on correctly and bubble-free. It comes cut exactly for the make and model of car. But this is because the film is usually applied to extremely curved surfaces like the front of the car.
I wonder if I can buy a sheet of the stuff from anywhere because it would be really easy to cut a square and stick it on the big flat surface of the side of the Outlander.

I've heard that...
The paint problem may be because of the new EPA paint regulations.
Someone I know has the same paint chip problem with their 2008 Toyota Tundra truck and he spent nearly $40,000 for the Crew Cab model.
So don't bash Mitsubishi if you don't really know the problem.

My UK Outlander has some 3m film on the rear wheel arch sill at the bottom near the rear door and the whole bottom sill has a black plastic guard all the way from front to back.
In addition my UK Warrior edition has silver trim on the front and back doors where you have the indentation on the doors ¾ the way down so stone don’t hit the body work. It fits the whole of the indentation
I have noticed this trim is missing on US/Canadian models, Zonarth sell the trim and you can have it supplied painted if you wish
