i have a 2009 outlander (similar to the 2007 model) and i used the first picture with the Red and White RCAs to 3.5mm jack.
worked fine, just check the backseat of the center console (by the floor) and you'll see the red and white connectors.

someone mentioned that before, i do not have these connections. I have the 2007 xls US version.
What I have inside my console between the front chairs is the cigarette lighter where in relation are these rca jacks in yours?
If I open the Floor console storage box where the "constantly on" 12 volt power supply is, to the left of it there is a lid (Passenger side in US), open the lid and this is where my aux connectors are.
An illustration is in my User Manual page 5-97

no lid, i check as you explained right next to the 12 volt power supply and there is no lid, no connectors. it does look like something belongs in that spot. so back to my original question what of the 2 wires do i need to get it to work.. after reading and seeing pics on other threads here it seems like my only option is to connect it in back of the radio? if thats the case im still confused which of the 2 wires i need.
