How can i reduce weight on my outlander?
 
Hi everyone! this is my 1st post, and i hope to learn many things here.

I want to turn my outlander into a sport car. Not an all out sport car, but one thats somewhat respectable. I figure i would do this in steps

1 - reduce weight

2 - add power

3 - get better aerodynamics.


So i have been removing all the unnecessary things in my car. I only need it to be a 2 seat car. So i want to remove the rear seats. I also want to remove the top racks on the roof.

How would i go about removing the racks and the rear seats?

also, i want to add power, but no too much. I was thinking about getting this

it would add anywhere from 5-15HP, and doesn't require engine modification. I looked under the hood, and there was a lot of room in there.

also, i was thinking about getting this for the car.

however, im afraid that it will be too low, and wont be able to go over speed bumps without damaging it.

I was also thinking about getting a magnaflow exhaust or something for the car.
what do you guys think?

by removing everything in the trunk and a few panels from the trunk, i was able to reduce my 0-45 from an 8 second average, to a 6.74 second average. I cant do a 0-60 without driving a bit of distance to legally try it.

What year? If the roof rails go, you might have ascrew holes to fill.

If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

If you want more hp and torque, go with a turbo kit. Lots more money, but lots more proven.

its a 2003.

i know its not a conventional super charger, but at the same time its not guna make anywhere near as much of a difference as a conventional one either.

It'll only give a little boost. So their claims arnt really outlandish. The idea sounds like it would work. I would see minimal gain, but at the same time i wont be blowing much money.

I think im guna try it, and if i dont like it, ill send it back.

Its only 3PSI more, where a conventional super charger put out over 9. But for $200, im not really complaining.

if you don't care about functionality...remove all interior trip from the rear seats...you can remove the floor, side panels, foam padding...

you could weigh your rims...then find aftermarket rims that are lighter.

you could buy lighter and/or LRR tires.

you could change out diff & tcase for better/thinner synthetic fluid w/ LS additive.

Hope it goes well and you are happy with it. I know that doing projects like this can be fun and satisfying - as long as you don't expect it to drive and handle like a sports car, then that's cool. Good luck!

thanks. Im not sure at this point if i wana turn it into an off road car, or a street car. I have taken it off road before and it did really well. Im guna have to think about it. But from the weight i removed thus far, it handles much better.
