How to Change the Radio ?

RE: How to Change the Radio ?
I had replaced the original radio with a minidisc receiver.I had to use the original brackets.Wired new wires to the speakers ,now Infinity ,much nicer.
Power from the battery and cigarette lighter. Also have the Harman -Kardon drive plus play for the ipod. And subwoofer Cervin-Wega.XM radio I just cancelled after 5 years.
Back to the question,I used a carbon sticker plastic to cover the empty space around the original dash trim.I had to removed the central portion of it,but no biggie!
If interested ,I can take a picture.

Hi Everybody
,
Very interesting Cutienoua ! How did you conect the power and originals speakers ? did you make a personnal connector or find a special convertor connector for the wire from the car?

I run a power cable underneath the car from the battery, this power cable alsopowers 2 amplifiers.I use the power from cigarette lighter as on-off signal for amplifiers and radio.I cut the old speakers and use them onlyas the mounting ring for my new speakers. It's easy to run new wires thru doors instead finding connectors.Plus I used a quality wire instead the tiny original wires .For better results you can run an amplifier for the front doors speakers, but if you are OK with your HU that works just fine.

Thats a random picture. Why would you run a power wire under your car? Just tuck it under the door sills and the carpet.I think its too riskyhaving it under your car. A rock could fly up and cut into it. The wire is only covered by a plastic coating. If your putting an after market amp in your car and want the best sound you will have to upgrade the speaker wire.Otherwise just extend them from the head unit to the amp.

That's why you have a fuse. This is how they wired it at the Best Buy store. They tried for a couple of hours to go thru the firewall and then decided against.

A fuse isnt going to help you run another15 feet of wire when it gets cut. Best buy is a bunch of idiots. I wouldnt let them install seat covers on my car. Theres plenty of spots where wires are going through the fire wall into the cabin. They could also drill a hole, its only metal. Im just not a big fan of running power wires under my car. Does the stuff get brittle in rain or snow or salt?
