Default Loud engine

I just purchased an outlander sport 2012 4wd with automatic &/or manual transmission. just passed the 500 miles for engine break-in. When we drove out of the dealership the day we purchased it. My wife drove the outlander and I'm on the other vehicle. she didn't realized that she put the shift to manual transmission and drove 55 to 60 mph on the hwy for 6 miles. I realized that the engine is revving up so hard after we exit and drove side by side with her and asked her to park somewhere. I asked her where did you put the shift ****. She answered on the side with a +/- (not knowing it was the manual transmission). Is the engine damaged? Or the new engine can perform fine even during that time. Is it still covered with warranty under limited warranty even if it's our fault?

I'd say as long as the RPM was not redlined, you are fine. Does she remember what number was displayed on the dash as she was driving?

It should have shifted on it's own if the RPM was hitting redline.
Also it's a CVT transmission with simulated gears indexes.

The outlander sport engine is indeed very loud and buzzy.

She was not paying attention. I don't know if it reached the redline. She drove without knowing it that she need to change gear. Hopefully it has a safety mechanism to switch gear when it hit redline on manual transmision. Loud and buzzy on the start up sounds like a diesel engine?

Shouldn't sound like a diesel, do you mean ticking sound?
Best to bring it to the dealer and ask them to check it out, we can't diagnose engine sounds over the internet.

If it sounds like a diesel you may have some rare model with direct injection
Seriously though, there is no way it should sound like a diesel. I doubt it was damaged, there would be sounds/lights going off about overheating first and the maximum RPM you can reach is below the RPM the engine can handle...it just cuts of fuel when you reach it.

User error is definitely not covered under warranty.

I think you are talking about the loud noise when the a/c kicks in. I had one Outlander 07 and now I got one GT 2012, with the same loud noise when the a/c compressor or fans torn on.

I have loud popping/clicking noise when using A/C. When in stop and go traffic I really hear this clicking sound few times a minute. I assume this is fan relay or the A/C clutch? I usually leave it in "auto" fan speed and just set the temperature.
