New to site...trying to repair wifes Outlander
I'm new to the site, as the title explained.
My wife currently drives a 2003 Outlander with the 2.4l engine, automatice transmission, and all wheel drive. So far, it has been a great vehicle for her, and has traveled from CA to OH, KY, and is currently residing in UT. She's been very happy with the vehicle (I don't care for a large vehicle with a 4 cyl engine myself) and wants to keep it around for a few more years.
A few weeks ago, she traveled with it to KY for her father's funeral. On the day of the funeral, she wasn't thinking clearly and decided to park it on top of a fire hydrant that she was unable to see due to it being too short.
She crimped the exhaust, and pierced the oil pan. From Utah, I was able to make a few calls to people I know and have the oil pan patched and welded, and had a new section of exhause pipe cut and welded in place of the crimped area. She was then able to drive ti back to Utah where we now live.
That leaves body work to be done. A body shop in KY gave her an estimate of over $4000, but I know I personally can do it for MUCH less. I just needed the estimate for the parts list.
They are calling for a new front bumper cover to be about $400. My local dealer can get me one for less than $150. The lower radiator support is bent up, but I can repair that, as it's easy to bend back into shape. Most of the damage is plastic, so that should be easy.
They told her that her paint color, a pearl white, was rare and a very expensive paint to obtain...is this true?
Nontheless, wish me luck as I begin this repair.
I'll be searching this forum for assistance.
Thanks,
Jon
