Default Newbie questions: XLS Deal and the GPS

Hi from a would-be Outie from the Tristate area.

1. I'm in the market for a fully loaded XLS. Is 28k a good price?
2. How about the GPS performence? Does it work well in big cities like NYC?

Thanks!

1. I think so. Sounds like invoice. That is approx what I paid for mine with Lux, Sun & Sound and Nav.
2.Can't speak for NYC, but.....one big bug that I have found is that the system doesn't recognize all turns on local roads . No voice prompt or even next turn shown in the turn by turn portion of the display. The next road display also jumps ahead to a more major road. All the roads and turns are shown on the map, but I really have to pay attention to the map itself or possibly drive right past a turn with no warning. I have even come to a stop sign on a dead end road only to have it not give me any directions to turn. You have to look at the map itself. My TomTom gives me every turn onto every road, not just the ones it feels are significant. I live in a relatively rural area, but have had it do it in small cities as well. Don't get me wrong...it will get you there, but it requires too much effort paying attention to the map display IMO. The whole point of voice propmts is that you can concentrate on driving and not have to be constantly checking the map for possible missed turns. YMMV

28K is good. I was just under that with XLS, all wheel drive, sun and sound, and luxury. I havent been in NY city with it yet but I have been in philly. It worked perfectly. I set the navigation to take me back home in NJ and she gave me direction by direction and was right on.

I'm from NY. I paid $28595 for my loaded XLS AWD. I wasn't qualified for any rebate and paid in full.Someone told me that you'll get better deal if you finance the CUV. I have no problem with my Nav. One thing I notice that it might not show you the same route each time. I'm not sure if it calculates the traffic factor at the moment.

You can always finance it if there's a deal and then pay it off early

Thanks for all your inputs!

I know there're limitations for any GPS.
However, I'm more concerned with the GPS reception under city canopy. The new Sirf III chip is good at locking satellites under poor conditions. Anybodyknows if the Outlander uses Sirf III GPS chip?
And what's the OEM manufacturer for the navigation system and the map provider?

I don't expect it to beat my current setup in performence, a PocketPC + iGuidance + Holux 236. But I would like to hear the built-in GPS does a fairly good job.

Once again, 28k is pretty good.

As for the GPS, it works well as far as reception goes when I go into the city. (downtown San Diego) In the suburbs it has never really failed me, it just gives me odd directions that aren't quicker than the shortcuts you learn from living in area for a while. My only gripe is I wish it had an updated POI (Point of Interest) list, along with more POIs. Another car I was in with Navi found stores and businesses that we don't have on ours.

IMO, the businesses POIs were left out intentionally. There are newer restaurants on the map but the older malls and shopping centers in the area are not showing up. Navteq intentionally left these POIs out. Or we may say, Navteq doesn't consider them POIs at all, because they were not at all "interested" in including these places.

Well I just wish I could search for a store and find it. Businesses (in the corporate sense) aren't what I would be interested in either. It has a few of the bigger stores, so I guess that helps a little.

I havent really got into POI's yet. I did use it 2 maybe 3 times though. All the times for food. It pretty much nails everything close. It lead me to friendlys twice with pin point accuracy. I checked out how it showed police stations, and I think hospitals. It showed me the local departments that I was looking for.
