OEM Mitsu Braking Pads Questions
Went to dealer today and got OEM front brake pads for my 2007 Outlander.
They came with no shims, and the person said you are suppose to re-use the shims on your old brake pads. Is this true?? Also came with no lube or anything like that.
Also, I'm changing my pads at 58,000 KMs, is this normal for an Outlander? I took a look at the brakes, and they only got like 20% left.
Thanks for everyones input1

I've never seen a set of pads come with lube before. Just buy the packets from NAPA or some auto store for a $1 or so.
As for pad life I'm sure you'll get the "it depends on driving style" line. Are the OEM pads ceramic?
You probably could have bought the shims at the dealer if you really wanted new ones. Reusing them shouldn't be a problem if they are in good shape, just clean them up. Same for squeal clips/springs or whatever else might be on that front assembly.

I've re-used the shims as well. If you get the napa package of caliper lube, put a very thin film on the back of your pads/shim to quiet them down.
I just replaced a caliper on my Ranger this weekend. I bought the little package of lube and greased up the pins and back of the pads...no squealing. Caliper lube is really sticky and thick. Regular grease won't work as it may heat up and thin out and get on your rotor. Greased rotors I don't think would be much fun.
