Outlander 08 Starter Motor Problem
Morning all,
I am having an intermittent problem with the starter motor on my 08 Outlander. Every now and then, usually when the Missus is driving it, the starter motor fails to turn over the engine, making the usual whining sound. Can anyone tell me how to clean the bushes and get it working properly again, or even whether this will actually solve the issue? All advice greatly appreciated. Neil |
Hi Neil,
You could try spraying it down with brake cleaner. I believe it is directly below the oil filter which a sloppy mechanic can really gum it up. No idea if it will solve your problem though. CN

Sounds like you might have a bad starter drive (or also known as a Bendix).
The starter will just spin and not turn the engine over. |
Nesser, thanks for that, I'll give it a try. I have some Carb Cleaner, or even WD40, will that do?

I think these things may resolve your problem, so just try with whatever you have and don't forget to post about the result. Good luck.
