Default 4x4 not activating but indicators work

Recently I notice the front wheels spinning often when in 4x4 mode, Its a sign that the 4x4 isn't actually getting activated.

Its a 2009 Outlander

I did a bit of research and found that there are numerous reasons for this:

1. Solenoid valve that activates the airflow to the activation rod.
On this model car, does anyone know where this valve is and its part number or has a photo of it.

2. The activation rod that uses an air pressure under at the back of the car
This is a cylinder actuator

3. The ECU that controls the solenoid
A small box somewhere, does anyone know where it is?

Last one, I see the indicators are coming on fine when I select the drive mode, should they still when the actual mode isn't physically working?.

Is the 4x4 mode you mention the "Lock" mode? The first 4x4 in my ZG means "Fwd until you lose traction in front, then engage the rears." Lock drives the rears continuously with the front.
Are you able to test this while the vehicle is off the ground on a hoist?
