Is it possible to intall a new OS?

Hello,
I am new to the forum, and "New" to Mitsu (Used to own a decade ago 2 gallants)
Now I just got a new outlander GT

I have looked around the forum (maybe not enough) but did not find what I was looking for.

Is there is a way to install a different Operating system on the HD and still get the NAV, and so on working?

Any help will be appreciated, or you just can point me to the right thread, Thank you.

By the way, I am real happy with this outstanding Mitsu.

The best people qualified to answer your question, are rdenis, and Otaku from Japan. Otaku has been directly involved with programming, and reengineering it.

If it is at all possible, he'd be able to accomplish it.

Thank you for your reply Sebba :)
I will try to get in touch with them

And by the way do any one knows what does the MMCS control?
Does it control the AWC? or the different sensors? or just the GPS, Multimedia, and sensor readout?

To cut the story short...
After a lot of research here what I came with:
Quoted from some website
"As for third party software development, its tricky to get into and the setup costs are high. A SDK + board will run you quite a few thousand $$'s and then there's not much community support on the platform so you're kind of on your own."

Conclusion:
Yes it is possible to install a different customized OS but it is a large project.
During my research I accumulated some interesting info, so if any one is willing to go that road, PM, and maybe I can help supplying some info.

if the stock navi has an aux video input, you could always install a car computer and run any OS that you want on it!

Interesting idea!!!
You mean just to use the on board screen.Gotcha
But I wont have access the GPS, sensors and so on.
The idea was to install a new customized OS on the on-board computer.
But I will test your idea :)

Centrafuse is a great customizable OS for Windows. They have a version that comes with a GPS, but I'd recommend using iGuidance and then the plugin for centrafuse. iGuidance is way better than the factory GPS, and even better than handheld ones.

If you want to go back to the car features, you could always switch the input back as well.

Interesting, will have a look.
Thank you
