Is it really neccessary? I thought all you had to do was lay it out on the exposed glass.

I never heard of taking out a window to tint it. By front and rear do you mean the windshield and rear hatch or the windows in the doors? The front and back windows you need to cut out and re apoxy back in if you dont break them. The door windows you have to take the inside panels off and then find the bolts that hold the window in its track and take them out. Just to warn you ahead of time, taking door windows in and out are a real PITA!

I watched mine while beingtinted proffessionally. The guy took the glass out in about 60 seconds, consideringmine was his first outlander to do it obviously wasn't complicatedand after watching him I've sinceremoved my interior panels to fit my wind deflectors really quickly. If you want to do a good job take the glass out.

I also have 2 layers of tint on my back screen, the guy layed the film on the outside of it and shrinked the film to the curved shape with a heat gun then once shape had formed he fitted it to the inside. Perfect fit, no bubbles or creases and that'safter 2 layers.
