RF System?

Okay, this is somehow related to the Chinese DVD/GPS thread but I didn't want to hijack ash's thread. But I am really confused about this RF amplifier thing.
I have the Outlander LS CVT Auto and it doesn't say in the audio whether its got the RF amplifier or not. So I bought this Chinese DVD/GPS and it got connected with the car amplifier BUT we couldn't control the volume level. It was too loud! If we dial down the volume the sound disappears completely. So this DVD/GPS unit came with an additional instruction to turn of the car amplifier via the unit. We were able to turn the car amplifier through the unit and we were able to control the volume but the sound quality isn't as good when it was connected to the car amplifier.
My questions are: Do I need the MITO O2 to make the car amplifier work and hopefully get a better sound from it? Or do I need a different kind of harness(?) for this problem? If its not an RF amplifier then what brand is it?
Thanks.
