Static from auxiliary input?
 

Hi folks... just bought a new 09 Outlander SE with Sun and Sound package last night for the little mrs., and we love the car so far. We traded in her '07 Eclipse SE 5pd for it, and got a great deal with loyalty and 1.9 financing. Aside from a missing bluetooth chip due to a recall (dealer will install asap), I have one issue to ask you guys about.

I was excited to see an Aux-In to plug in an MP3 player, but when I did plug it in when I got the car home, it sounded like crap! All other sound sources sounded very good (CD player, radio, sat).

I unplug the player, and notice that there is static coming thru the speakers. It was especially noticeable as I turned the volume up. From a volume of 25 and above, it is very evident. Again, this is with absolutely nothing plugged into Aux... I should have heard dead silence.

So my question is, does anyone else experience this? Is this normal?

Are you plugging it in with a headphone jack? I know sometimes distortion can occur when you have the mp3s players volume up too high.

Once again, I get static with NOTHING plugged in. Turn to AUX, nothing plugged in, static.

Anyone experience this?

With nothing plugged in, sounds like a loose wire.

With mine (WITH) something plugged in...

I get a ground loop (whine with changing pitch corresponding to RPM) when I have my phone (aka MP3 player) plugged in AND have it plugged into the DC jack to charge.

If the charger is not plugged in, no ground loop.

But back to yours, sounds like you have a loose wire or a bad ground. I would take it into the dealer if you are not comfortable checking the wires.

I get static too, but only when I turn it up quite a bit with nothing plugged in. I think its normal considering the length of the aux cable and the fact that it passes by many other wires carrying electrical currents. Doesn't sounds like crap though when listening through it.
