strange comment by my mechanic
 

Hi all,

I bought a 03' outlander with 77k. I had the timing belt replaced about two months ago and I did a complete tune up to the car.
I had an annoying squeak coming from the rear, every time I went over a bump. I took it to my mechanic who said this to me: "there are a lot of things wrong with this car. It jumps when you hit the gas and it shakes -- among other things". I asked if I should bring it in to see what is wrong but he said that he will find a lot of things wrong with it and that it might not be worth while for me. These guys have been my shop for about 3 years and have always provided honest reliable service on my last car. I am a bit baffled as to what I should do next..... Any thoughts?

This is a car tech issue not Tarot card reading. If he doesn't want to look at it take is elsewhere.

Sounds like he's got better things to do with his time unless he really can predict the future and has diagnosed your car already ;)

I'd ask for him to clarify his statement. A statement like that sounds like he doesn't want to service your vehicle. If that's the case, there are thousands of qualified, certified, reputable shops that will be happy to have your business.

Your stuck between a rock and a hard place. My advice go to Pepboys or R.Strauss a Sears or any other mechanic chain get everything in writing. These days you cant put all your trust in anyone.

Here's the thing...not everything has to be fixed. Fix what needs fixing...contemplate what could be fixed. Go in and get the list of what they deem could be fixed...then go through the list and figure out what needs fixing.

In my state, we have to pass an inspection every other year. Something is goofy with my truck brakes, but I don't have the money & time to get them properly fixed. I pass the inspection and they still work fairly well...just not as good as when I first got it. They should be fixed...but they don't need to be fixed.

What I read was that the mechanic sure can find things wrong with it and is hesitant to bid on it since the owner may think it is too expensive. But it seems as if the owner is only really interested in the squeaking in the rear...so maybe they should just start with that.
