Smile Thinking about trading my Mustang for a 2013 Outlander Sport

Here is the email I sent to my local dealer

I would like to know if it is possible to purchase your 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport AWD ES for $15,000 OTD, if my 2012 Mustang Convertible is worth $20k+ in trade in value.

See link below for my trade in
https://usaa.zagusedcars.com/car/vin..._id=ZUSA000800
And here is their response
Yes, we can sell the Outlander Sport for $15k out the door if your mustang is worth $20k. Do you currently owe anything on the Mustang?

Do you guys think this is a good deal?

First, I want to say - Thank you for your military service and Sacrifice.
I greatly appreciate it.
I'm sorry you're suffering with PTSD. Perhaps just talking on this forum will some how help you, in some way.

Secondly, about those dash cam footage... it wouldn't be showing you going into some "HULK" rage would it??
You know what the Chinese monks would say? Rage... just like Fear it can be controlled.

PS: If you really want a slow SUV, test drive the 2013 Mazda CX-5...
0-60MPH in 13.4s, going down hill. But, you do get great 40MPG!
My wants are Ground Clearance, Cost, looks and warranty. The Outlander Sports fits all those needs. The CX5 looks amazing, but costs nearly 6k more, and doesn't have nearly as good of a warranty. I don't care if it's 11 seconds 0-60 anymore. I use to ride 4 second motorcycles, and those are so fast it's scary.

I use to have a Rav4 here: 2008-2011

Nissan Juke: 2011-2012

and my current Mustang: 2012-Current

I think I'm going to wait until at least after summer before I make my decision. See if I fall in love with the convertible again.

I went all out modding on my first vehicle, performance and visual. It was a long painful lesson with the performance mods so when I got the Juke, I only did simple bolt ons, intake, exhaust.. but then I matured a bit more and left the Mustang completely stock, because I was tired of exhaust drones. I didn't want to go through the hassle of removing everything when I decide to move onto my next vehicle, because apparently, I have issues with staying with the same vehicle for longer than a year ever since I parted with my Rav4.

I do however plan on blacking out the entire Outlander Sport as well as putting in all my TVs again. I use to buy my vehicles fully loaded, but ended up taking a lot of the extra options out so I can switch it to what I want and realized that was a waste of money. So with the Mustang, I purchased it completely base and added leather seats along with all the other electronics the way I want it.

I can't seem to find any leather seats for the Outlander Sport though.

Got the leather in my 2012 Outlander (not sport). There should be an option package with them. Don't know about the Mustang, but thee are air bags in the seat-back bolsters on the Mitsu.

I got an Outlander for $15500 (out the door) plus my 2006 VW Passat. Passat was worth $7155 trade in value. If you are saying $15000 plus your mustang that ES better have all the bells and whistles or maybe the GT S-AWC V6. That ES is about 23500 MSRP in plain trim. Your Mustang should be worth 18 to 20K trade in value. Now if you still own money on the Mustang then ???????

This is where I"m confused. I can get the ES AWD for $17-$18k through my USAA Car Buying Service and if my Mustang is worth 20k, that would be a difference of $2-3k correct? So I should be taking off 2-3k from $17-18k right?

The Mustang is financed and I still owe around 20k. I should have some equity on it after summer.

You know the only way to really find out is to go to the dealership and make the deal. Otherwise we are just guessing this far away from reality. Good luck. I have the Outlander (not the sport). Just got it last week. The only complaint I have is it seems to have more road noise than I expected on rough pavement. I looked under the floor mats and find about 1/2 of insulation but not everwhere. Got to do something about the noise.
