Timing chain or belt in 2007-08 Outlander XLS

Hello everyone:

I am looking to buy one of these in Canada. One dealer told me that 2007 had a timing chain that did not need regular replacement. One 2007 owner told me that he got the belt replaced by a dealer for 96k service.

So, I would like to know if the engine has a chain or a belt in a 2007 and a 2008?

Also, is it required to adjust the valve clearances on these vehicles?

Any information would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Timing belt.
It's under some covers behind the drive and generator belts. The sticky with the 2007 Service Manual shows the removal in section 11A-49.

The engine does not have self-adjusting valves.
So yes, you may need to adjust the valve clearances if things get noisy or engine performance suffers.

I've yet to hear of someone that has needed to have them adjusted. Probably because I haven't seen an Outlander with 300,000kms on it yet.

Anyone out there have a high mileage Outlander, how is it running?

V6 Has a belt and is due at 105K miles so you are due.

The V6 is an interference engine and belt failure will cost $$$$$$
