I recently purchased a 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport AWD and within 18,000 miles the transmission failed. I took it to a dealership and they are telling me it will cost over $8,000 to replace the transmission. The vehicle is at 122k miles so this puts it very close to being totaled.

My questions:

1. Does the price they are telling me make sense? I've looked around on the internet and have not found anything to confirm that it should cost 8k to replace a transmission.

2. If it is around 8k to fix would it make sense to sell the vehicle as is? Or would I be able to get more if I replaced the transmission and then sold it?

I would appreciate some guidance on this.
