Transmission Fluid

Hi,
I wonder if I may add Synthetic Transmission Fluid ATF 4 to a 2009 Mitsubishi Outlander V6 ?
Any issues if I add /

Thanks,

Is it leaking or do you want a flush

There are numerous threads here on The Great Tranny Fluid Debate. I personally suck it up and pay the dealer for J2, but if the aftermarket companies claim to make the same quality oil, why not use it. You can also find the flush procedure in the threads here.

Now if it's leaking and you just want to keep the car moving for a year or two, mixing them is not ideal, but would probably keep it shifting ok, yet nobody really recommends mixing the oils.

If I remember correctly, the paddle shifting 6-speed was a fairly new invention at the time and because of that, the fluid required specs for higher temps and psi.

Please share the results with the forum, thanks and good luck

2009 Outlander Transmiss. Fluid Mix

Thanks for your reply,
I just added abut 1/2 (half) Quart of Synthetic ATF 4, and wanted to know if I some damage may occur to my 2009 Outlander V6 3.0 ?

No transmission is ok, Not Leaking. Just Noted it needed some to be full and added the half QUART (ATF 4 Fully synthetic).

since it holds about 6 qt's, that's only 8%, so I don't think it would cause an issue.

the manual is quite explicit about over-filling and under-filing as both lead to bubbles in the fluid and reduced lubrication performance

I don't know enough about the properties of ATF4 and ATF-J2 to know if it would be okay or not. I personally would not have done it...
