Default Type of Engine Oil

Hi, I'm new to the forum and just recently bought a used 2010 Outlander Roadest 2.0L. I live in Auckland New Zealand and couldn't find Castrol 5w20 so I bought Castrol 5W30 Magnatec Fully Synthetic instead.

My question is, would this be okay on my engine or should I replaced with with any brand that has 5W20 on it?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum! The following is not a personal opinion. If you have the 4B11 engine (2.0 L, gasoline) that requires full synthetic motor oil with 0W20 viscosity rating. Any deviation from the required rating is going to decrease the longevity of the engine.

Thanks for this info. Did you mean 5w20 or I have to look for 0w20.

Thanks again.

Most of the Japanese naturally aspirated 4-cylinder gasoline engines (Mazda 2.0, and 2.5, Subaru 2.0 and 2.5 and Mitsubishi 2.0 and 2.4) require 0W20 (thin) motor oils due to the high precision fitting. Using thicker (more viscous) oil puts a strain on the moving parts.

Well said, this make a lot of sense. Thank you for this.

So, everyone has their engine oil preferences. Some stick to the Subaru stock oils to keep it natural, others branch to Motul, some like Red Line oils. Also, whats your driving style with that oil? conservative and casual, aggressive and bossly, or actual high performance racing? Do you have a winter oil preference and a summer oil preference? Synthetic or dinosaur poop?
