VIN and month of manufacture

RE: VIN and month of manufacture
With multiple plants making Outlanders, you need both the plant designator (e.g., for my new XLS 4WD Outlander with VIN JA4MT41X37Z007858 which has a build date of January 30, the Z means it was built at the Okazaki plant) and the six digit number that follows at the end to have an idea of build date.
For example, there are VIN numbers for other than the Okazaki plant there are over 13,000, but that doesn't mean it was built earlier than my XLS 4WD. For example. in the Chicago area, a VIN of an XLS 4WD is JA4MT41X17U013428 and this was built at the Mizushima plant. Despite it having a much larger last six digits, it's build date is also likely to be about the same as my Outlander from the Okazaki plant.
So the key to build date is not just the last six characters. It is the last SEVEN characters (plant designator plus the six digit sequence numbers).
