what size wheel
anybody have any idea just how big of a wheel/tire combo you can get on these things...
I am thinking of 20s
something nice and black with a chrome or polished lip...
My outlander is an 07 xls, in white.
dont really know much from here
other than the stock size of 225/50/r18
I would like to go to a 235, or maybe even 245 wide, maybe 45 or 50 a/r on the sidewall.
as for the size, something like a 20 would be great, just dont know how deep/ and wide I can go

RE: what size wheel
Yeah I've asked the same question here a couple of times, no oneseems to know for sure how big can you go, guess we'll just have to find out the hard way. I my self can't wait to see my 07 black LS on some 19's, may be 20's with some nice wide rubbers, I think the stockers are lacking.

RE: what size wheel
The tire size that came on mine are 225/55/18.
The dealer brochure says the XLS wheels are 18x7. I'm not sure of the offsets but it looks like some of the suggested aftermarket wheels are +35. I wouldn't bank on that being correct though.
Tire Rack has several wheel choices:

Dont get me wrong, the stock 18s are fine and all, just really would like something bigger and wider.

RE: what size wheel
sound,
you should be concerned about total wheel-tire diameter for speedometer/odometer issues, and wheel offset as was already mentioned. two different tire sizes were mentioned in this thread; 225-50-18, and 225-55-18. those two sizes have almost an inch difference in diameter, for at least a 2-mph difference in speedometer readings at highway speeds. providing the manufacturers make them, it's possible to get a 20" rim-tire combination to fit as long as you don't exceed the 27 or 28 inch oem diameter - depending on which of the two sizes above is correct. if the 225-50-18 size is correct, then you could conceivably fit either a 215-40-20, or a 225-40-20, which are within a tenth of an inch either side of your 18 oem. again, it all depends on whether tires of those sizes are made for the mass market and can be found.
good luck, and let us know !

RE: what size wheel
you guys are in, as tires 245-40-20 that will fit are available. that size will not present more than a 1% speedo issue in relation to the oem 18" wheel-tire combination, a non-issue basically. check tire rack and discount tires, and i'm sure others as well, as they offer tires in that 20" size that will fit the '07 outlander.

RE: what size wheel
I think your safest bet is a 19" wheel on the 07 outlander. For an suv the overall diameter is small, if you go 20's you'll only be left with 97mm of tyre wall (including the half inch inside the lip of the rim) to keep the rollingradius the same which I personally think wouldn't look good unless lowered dramatically, (remember! any promotional photographs you might have seen of outlanders sitting on 20's with great thick tyre walls are promotional pictures and that alone). Possible tyres (to suit diameter)on a 20" rimwould be 275/35/20or 245/40/20 but I doubt very much you'd get 275 under there without fender work. I've spoken to a custom wheel manufacturer here in the UK who has had an 07 Outlander in for the purpose of setting up wheel and tyre configurations. The end result was a 19x8.5 wheel with a 255/45/19 or 245/45/19 tyre, each are a plus and minus of damn near equal amounts of 0.6% either way of the stock 215/70/16's rolling radius. Unfortunately the manufacturer was reluctant to give me the offsets unless I placedan order.
Here in Europe Mitsubishi offer 19's as an accessory and recommend a 245/45/19 tyre, look here http://www.mitsubishi-motors.ie/temp.../Outlander.pdf
