Default What it take to fix a cruise control

I just got my Outlander back from the Dealership. It had developed the won't shift out of park problem, the cruise control would randomly not work and the asc turned off and back on again. A new stop lamp switch fixed the shifter, a new brake switch fixed the asc, and to fix the cruise control they replaced the gearshift lever ****, the lever assembly and the windshield wiper switch. I don't know if they mixed up what parts fixed what on the invoice, but everything was covered by the warranty so I didn't really care.

Half of those don't make any sense, did they just put random parts on the invoice so they can charge back more?
ASC not working probably disabled cruise control, so that's probably what happened. What usually happens to break ASC is someone using chains/driving off road and tearing off the wheel speed sensor on a wheel.
Likewise, the not being able to shift is due to a solenoid going bad, which is the only one of those problems that is common.

Well, for all the parts they threw at it they didn't fix the problem. It's back to not coming out of park and the cruise control is hit or miss.

They refenced the tsb on the invoice. I looked up the tsb on the nhtsa site and there 2 tsbs dealing with the shifter. One from 2009 and one from 2011. It goes back wednesday and hopefully they can fix it this time.

Looks like everythings fixed. I went back to the Dealership and they adjusted the brake switch. That's probably all it needed in the first place.

Oh, wow! Have a 2009 Outlander, past 6 months have been troubled with intermittent problems that have gotten progressively worse lately including:
- cruise control not working
- shifter solenoid not working
- ASC Off error message coming on when I slow to a near stop (like at a red light)
- Check engine light coming on (most recent)

However, get this, last couple weeks these have all become consistent issues... until this morning when I had no problem whatsoever with any of them! So clearly all interrelated.

tfaas, do you know exactly what the adjustment they did to fix the problem so I don't end up with several visits?

Also, keep us updated as to whether your fix worked in the long run, right now my Outie seems to have "self healed"... until the next time.

Unfortunately all the invoice said was readjust the brake light switch, so I don't know exactly how they adjusted it. I would say even if you have to deal with multiple trips it's worth having it fixed.

Hi
In my Outlander (2014 2.2 DI-D, 4N14 Diesel Engine, 6A/T). Cruise Control and speed limit was not working. To be exact, the "SET -" button was not doing anything. And I never used this system before because I got the car recently it is a used car. My brake light was working well, off when not pressed, on when pressed, but it seems in the end the stop lamp switch was still the issue and the cruise mode was thinking the brake pedal was pushed all the time (even if the light was off).

In the end it was the "Stop lamp switch". I just did the following to fix it (10-30 minutes fix)

1) removed some undercover around the brake and accelerator pedal. I only removed like 5 clips carefully (using a thin flat screwdriver and my nail), without fully removing the cover, making enough room so my hand can fit in there.
2) then I unlocked the switch (turning anti clockwise 15º)
3) then I tested it a little bit, ended up pushing the switch a bit (a few mm) towards the front of the car
4) i locked the switch (clockwise 15º) in the new position.
5) I tested the brakes: brake light was off when not pressing the pedal and also while I was lightly pressing it (like 10% of the pedal travel). And light now turns on when braking with a little more force (not when just touching the pedal barely braking).
6) I installed back the undercover with the 5~ clips that were removed.
6) then I tested cruise control again and "SET -" finally worked and got some "Speed set~" message on the "Multi information display".
