Will 245/55/18 tires fit? Sorry about another tire thread.

'cause the price is quite nice, includes shipping. This is one of the Plus-Zero sizes for 2008 Outlander XLS, according to Discount Tire.

The P225's that came on your XLS have a width of 8.86 inches. The P245's have a width of 9.64 inches, so rounding up to the nearest tenth your looking at tires that are 8/10 of an inch wider.

I guess the question is will the tires hit the wheel well when the steering wheel is turned all the way to the left or right.

Discount tire has a very good reputation and if they say the tires fit your XLS I would believe them. However if you wanted to check yourself, turn your steering wheel all the way to the left and right and then check how much clearance you have in each direction. When doing this remember you only need 4/10 of an inch on each side of the tire.

thanks for the idea :)

BTW the overall diameter is also almost 1" bigger.

One other thing to keep in mind. A wider tire may throw more stones, salt, and other debris on to the side of the vehicle since it will stick out more in the wheel well. There have been threads on this forum about some Outlanders ending up with paint chips because of this. Mud flaps will help, but just keep this in mind if you go with the wider tire.
