is it worth to put K&N air filter?

I have to replace the air filter and i'm interested to put a K&N air filter instead of the original. it's not a performance issue but a long term economy issue. a air filter cost 25$ and a K&N cost 65$ plus 12$ for the cleaning kit.
I am at 19 000 km and i figure i will replace the air filter 5x at 100 000 km so 25 x 5 = 125$ vs 77$
The only thing is i don't know how many cleaning you do with one kit?

Anyone has replace the air filter for a K&N? Any performance/milleage improvement?

I was thinking about getting the same thing, but just to see if there is any difference i performance or gas mileage.

Amazon sells it for $49.34 with free shipping.

I plan to install the KN as well. Thanks for the Amazon price quote. That's the lowest I've seen. I'm going to order in early Sept and will be happy to report back if you guys don't mind waiting. I'm also going to switch to either Mobil 1 Extended life 0-20 or the Amsoil. Can't decide which to go with yet.

It's worth it, just on maintenance price alone. As far as performance boost, I think it's just gimmick.

cleaning is done every 50k miles, where with conventional one you'll be replacing it 3-4 times during that time.

I had a K&N in for a yr didnt notice anything i put my factory one back in and got better mpg so i dunno, dont think it was worth the 45 $ i spend on mine.

Did you actually do any tests that resulted in lower mpg?

Make the engine sound WAY better, i have more power, and gaz millage, juste a bit, but not enough to talk about it.

Hold on just a second. The K&N filters are NOT a 'gimmick'.

The filters are already proven to release a few more horses, so let's not beat a dead one. Secondly, nobody here is qualified to say that it does/does not release more power, or does/does not increase gas mileage. Saying "I noticed mine went down/up" doesn't mean a single thing. The same goes for hosewpower.

The whole point of a K&N filter is that it lasts a lifetime. You simply wash it, oil it, dry it, and use it over and over. Not a gimmick.
