Default MPG V8 XLS

I have put about 1500 miles on my used 2006 XLS V8 AWD double cab. I drive a pretty even mix of highway and city. I don't drive aggressive but my MPG is a consistent 14.5. The truck is rated 15 city and 19/20 Hwy but I cant seem to get to the 15mpg. Anybody know why before I start upgrading?

I am planning on the following upgrades:

E3 sparkplugs
cold air intake
magnaflow exhaust
throttle body spacer
fold-a-cover tonneau cover (more for security than mpg)

possibly a JET performance stage 1 module.

Well the answer to that is fairly simple. right now its winter and even my cars gas mileage is affected by it. it will go up slightly in summer but thats a v8 and you will have to baby that acceleration for you to succesffully get 20. i wouldnt expect anything more then maybe 16 miles a gallon from a v8. hope that answers your question. i wouldnt worry to much about it. i am just guessing based off my own experience will my car but you obviously dont have a car. hope that helps

Iget about 16.5 to 17.5 combined in my 06 Raider V8 XLS 2WD and have gotten 19 on long trips. The cold air intake, exhaust, and bed cover all helped a little. When the truck was stock I was getting 15.5 in mixed driving.

I have never got better than 17mpg and that was down hill and flat entire tank,
with v8 4x4
13.5 mpg last tank mixed 50/50 city/highway.

I want to thank ZZMAN7197 for the above info. I used it to find a NIB unit on ebay for $115.00 bucks. I look forward to learning more about this truck here.
