Need help with my 2006 Raider duroclass 4x4
 

I bought the truck used and unfortunately didn't realize that the previous owner had not done any transmission fluid maintenance. So when I changed out the front transaxle fluid it cause it to brake and ruin my front drive axle when I had it in four wheel drive. Now my solenoid pack is going out and the transmission is in fail safe mode. I have been told that all needs to be done is the pack replaced. But to do that means taking out the old fluid and putting new in which might cause this transmission to brake since I doubt this fluid has ever been changed out. Has anyone had this problem with their raider? Was it expensive to fix?

putting clean fluid in a box very, very rarely causes things to brake. Or break, for that matter.

My brother use to work at a transmission shop. He explained to me that if you change out the fluid on a transmission with 100,000 miles on it that has never been changed that the new fluid will eat through the old gears because of its cleaning properties. This is why at the shop he worked out they made the cars owner sign a waver on old transmissions that they did this to. All I know is that it worked fine befor I changed it than it broke. Right now I am dealing with the issue wil having to change the solenoid pack and thus the fluid in a transmission I have no idea has ever had its fluid changed out.

interesting theory. Generally old oil becomes more acidic. Replace with mineral, not synthetic. Add oil stabiliser (moreys)

ok. Brief google. Dont FLUSH your trans. A drain and fill and filter, then repeated and/or flush in 3k should see you right. You may google yourself a fuller explanation.

Ok just talked to a Mitsubishi tech who told me it should not do any harm. Also told me to have them check the harness to the solenoid first to make sure it isn't broken first. At least that is now one less thing to worry about. Told me only older cars had that problem.
