Default Mitsubishi = Life

Hey Guys,

My name is Mike, I'm from the great motor city of Detroit. I like horse back riding and long walks on the beach, then kick back and just enjoy the sunset.
Oh... Wait a second this isn't Craigslist.

Anyways down to buisness, I'm new to this forum but not to cars or the internet. I've been recently stuck with a dilema on which Eclipse to get. I know its gonna be a 3G (probably 2002 or 2003) and a manual but, I'm thinking of getting an I4 2.4L and swapping out a JDM V6 or just getting the boring old USDM V6 3.0L. Obviously money would be one concern, I plan on working my *** and with three jobs I will be.

As for plans on what I'm going to do:
-Rear seat delete
-Sparco racing seat
-MoMo stearing wheel
-TEIM shocks
-Either a GReady or HKS turbo (yet to find one)
-Einki 16" FD-05
-Nitto NT-55J or Falken FK-542

I'm gonna do all the engine work once I'm happy with the handling and such. You can probably tell I'm going to race it, legally of course. I was trying to go for a Super Lap feel with a little bit of drifting touch to it, even though it is hard as hell to drift a FWD.

I come to you for wisdom and to tell me how badly I ****ed up. So don't go easy on me if there is a mistake.

I was contemplating it but, I don't know it just doesn't feel like me. You know that feeling that you get when you know you found the right car, yeah thats what it feels like when I step behind the wheel of a 3G.

Also, you see a lot of 3G's but you don't see a lot of them racing. Atleast not by me.

welcome,

Let me start by saying you have alot of learning to do with the 3G. The usdm motor is a 6g72, there is no JDM swap you can doBesides that the fast V6 motors mitsu made turbo were 6g72's as well in the VR4 3000GT, which cant be swapped because even though its the same motor they face 180 degrees opposite. The only swap in the 3G you can do is take out the stock V6 motor and put in the 3.5L v6 from the diamonte (sp), which in merly only swapped in for a bit of Tq and top end and is not practicle unless you are turbo already and maxing out the stock v6. You cant swap the v6 into the I4 engine bay. On top of that the i4 is a MUCH better motor. I have owned both in the past. a 00 3G GS and a 02 GT spyder, and currenty have a 01 GT spyder as a daily driver. The i4 is much better in turns of strength if you do want to go turbo. Which brings me to my next thing. there are no greddy and HKS turbo kits for this car. The only kits out there are custom made by people like tearstone and they use a turbonetics turbo usually. The i4 is better to turbo for a few reasons. You can use quite a bit Evo parts including swap an Evo head onto the car. The stock bottom end of the i4 4g64 motor can handle a little over 300WHP and still be reliable, the stock bottom end of the v6 is a POS the pistons in the GT model can only handle 8PSI like 300-315WHP befroe the car is on the verge of blowing up, The GTS motor is even more weak than that.

To turbo the v6 motor you need alot of custom work done to fit a turbo and piping in the engine bay. Yes they have been done often by tearstone but he no longer has the connections to supply these kits like he used to in the past.

Alright, thanks for the insight. I know I was gonna have a couple things wrong, I'm used to Hondas and Nissans. Mitsubishis are a completly different ball game I guess.
