Default Why I'm here and who I am, Pictures

Since I've been posting a bit I thought it time to tell you guys a little about who I am and what I do. I'm in my early 40's, have had the speed bug for a long time and even with a '77 Camaro 6 cylinder car in high school in the late 70's/early 80's with many tickets and defered one from driving school, one more ticket and I lost my license. Went to California from Washington to start a new life and got married when I was 19, and still am married today, nearly 24 years later and have 4 daughters, three pictured here... the forth is married and living in Florida.

I hung suspended ceilings in California and went to driving school a few more times and moved back to Washington to raise a family. Eventually my little brother sold me his '70 split bumpber Camaro that was left at the old man's house that was very fast in its' day and was completely rusted and mold covered the whole interior, the paint had all been removed 15 years earlier and the car was shoved outside with somewhat of a tarp on it.

After back surgery in my mid 30's I couldn't do much and couldn't go to work so I started taking a rear quarter panel and rear panel off the car and started my first attempts at welding and body work. For a first attempt it went well. Red Paint, 4 speed, 4.56 rear gears, the first motor gave up. Then the second motor was a monster with over 400ci small block, AFR Aluminum heads and too much gearing for the motor it would spin the wide tires through half of 3rd gear if pushed.

That went so well, I tried my hand at another car, and in two years painted the blue '67 Chevelle and modified the front from manual to '78 Camaro 11" brakes and changed the shifter from the column to the floor and changed the tranny from a powerglide to a th350. The paint was so good it was a 2 footer and the next door neighbor bought it after coming over nearly every weekend for two years to watch the progress. Nearly flawless paint outside, and the inside was modified with full electric Lincoln Mark VIII black leather seats with air bolsters and air lumber support (small compressor in the seats). The floor had to be modified to fit the seats. The inside seat belts were changed so they all retracted and the dash was modified to SS gauges. The interior was in better than new condition in almost evey area.

Sold them both to have money to finally build my dream car, anything tubbed, especially split bumber '70-73 Camaros. Here is a couple shots of the '72 RS/SS

If you look at the last picture, you will see that the front suspension has been built and modified with tubular A arms and what you can't see is that the bottom A arm has 1-1/2" cut out and rewelded, the front has been narrowed 3" to fit the tires so they would turn. The car has 2" drop spindles and the body has been cut loose and dropped another 2" and the fenders were sitting on the tires, therefore the 3" delete. The geometry was also changed to allow more stable driving at very high speed. I made the rear back half for the Morrison ladder bar system. I also bent the cage, but my cars seem to take a while to build because of lack of time and my buddy did most of the floors and tunnels for the car.

Here is my point, I now have a '97 GS-T Eclipse and I enjoy driving it and I want to learn about it, you guys are going to help me. Brand loyal I am not, speed is my elixor, and this little car will need to last another 100,000 miles and I like working on cars, so I'm counting on you to show the way for repairs and intimate knowledge I probably can't readily find in books on keeping it fine tuned so the turbo spools up quick and the car stays together. I know you guys have the know how.

With all girls, I had hoped one would want to help build cars, so I got a '79Z, took it all apart, traded a '55 Chevy project truck to get the body work done since I didn't have the time, took about 8 days to prep and paint and was starting to cut and buff and my number three kid whom is 16, she decided it was too much work so she is on her own somewhat to buy her own car. In this house you have three choices, you can help me build a car where you have an investment in the car, or I buy a piece of crap that you can drive or your buy your own. She now has a job and is saving her money, but what a waste of my time. I was going to drop about a 325hp motor in it just for a little fun. Now I'm going to drop about a 400hp motor in it for me to drive a few times and then probably sell it to pay off the Eclipse and the paint and motor parts for the '79. It was the girl in the middle of the picture of the first post in this thread. I've chased a lot of guys off the front porch.

Picture of parts ready to be finished cut and buffed...

What it looked like before taking it apart...

This is a Mitsubishi board so I'm going to try and keep it too that after this post unless someone else has any questions, and if you do need to know anything about GM, specifically Camaros see nastyz28.com and go to that forum.

Dodges, Fords or Chevy old muscle, I like them very much but if you have to drive all the time, I prefer the newer cars. I have really enjoyed the turbo Eclipse we just got.

Your uncle did a great job on the body work on the Charger, you can see the car is very straight.

How do you embed pictures? I've tried to do it using photobucket but must be doing something wrong yet.

So which ones are still single and any of them actually know the difference between a monkey wrench and an open end/box combo wrench? LOL and when do you want to take a trip to VA and do the bodywork on my Conquest?
