RE: putting a turbo in a 1gen
well ive seen the 1st gen DSM 16V DOHC turbo its sweet i know this girl, her dad has it. but turbos kits are pretty expensive for brand new out of the box. but look on ebay and see. or get a turbocharger from the internet doesnt have to be for that year or model and fabricate the piping, and all the hardware for it. you could get the stock turbo for the 1st gen DSM. by the way if you buy a new turbo you need to call or e-mail the company to see what size and MM to get for your dsm depending on your application.

if it would be my call...
get a gsx...
it will save you a lot of money,
plus the stock gsx engine is stronger,
and if you'd want to get a little more horses from under the hood...it's a better base...
considering 10psi is about the absolute max. on a 16vdohc dsm 1st gen
above 10psi, u are gonna frie stuff, reinforcing or rebuilding is pricy!

RE: putting a turbo in a 1gen
The GSX block and the and th GS have the same 2.0L block(4G63). The difference is in the compression ratio to start with (among many other things) so you couldn't crank up the boost unless you put dished pistons in it first. What engine does the car even have in it? does it even have the 2.0L? Or is it the 1.8L 4G37 SOHC? Go for the GSX and you'll have a great starting platform. You will be surprised at how much power there is to be made just by making the engine breathe better, let alone the bolt-on possibilities. The stock internals can handle alot of boost, so you don't have to tear down the block in order to have fun with it. Also, anything less than the GSX will be front wheel drive which can't compare when it comes to your launch. Hope this helps, GSX costs more, but ends up being MUCH less when you figure in for the new internals, turbo kit, fried clutch, cams, etc
