2.6L 4cyl interchange

Need help please!! I sold a 83' mitsu 4x4 p/u 2.6L auto to a guy he says that it won't bolt up to his 87' 2wd man. Seems the bellhousings are a different size 12.25" on the 83' & 13.25" on the 87'. I've had one wrecking yard tell me that there are two different blocks one for the auto and one for the manual. I've never heard of this only that there was a difference between FWD vs RWD. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
