Doing work on other peoples cars...
Ok so I was thinking to make a few extra bucks here at school I would do some work on other peoples cars for some cash. I brought a bunch of tools. I figure I can charge like $20 an hour and both of us win. I will just be doing basic stuff like belts, spark plugs, wires, occasional brake pads etc. I was just wondering if you guys think that I should write some sort of contract to protect myself. So that if I change someones plugs and their engine blows up they don't try and blame it on me. What do you guys think?

I think that would be a good idea, just make damn sure you know what your doing before you work on someone elses car. Stuff like that can get nasty really fast if you dont watch it.

No need to cover your ***, but maybe if it will help you sleep at night. I do the same ****. I changed the brakes on my brothers lotus, changed the plugs in my ex girlfriends rolla, and her moms mini van. Made about $20 an hour

Its 50/50! I did a friends Infinite just and oil change give it back and she complains that it pulls to the left. I ended up replacing the boot myself, rotating and balancing her chopped tires dem hoes took 8oz!![:@]took me and hour to balance 4 tires.
Had another friends SXTthought she needed a new trans looked at it and she never changed her sparks, wires, air filter nor oil. Just kept adding oil when low!! Did it all for her and now Im "Captain Save-a-Hoe"
But yeah stick to the basics, the contract is not a bad idea especially when ppl don't know s#!t about cars. You'll get that famous "It was fine b4 you touched it"

In a way it could backfire too...A "contract" may scare them off as well..People may think "This guy is coming up to me to sign a contract saying that if my car blows after he works on it......" It may kinda show them that you may not know what you're doing even though I know you do and something wrong is going to happen to their car. See what I'm sayin?
I detail cars on the side of my regular job under the table for "extra cash" and it's nice cuz alllllll of that money goes into the Eclipse...A lot of my customers have been with me for a long time now and a bunch of them have expensive cars like B'mers, Benzes, big SUVs, etc..But when they ask me what all I do to the car to make it pretty again I tell them I do everything but the engine...I don't touch it at all because I don't need to get water anywhere where it's not supposed to be like the intake, etc. and since I'm not "insured" to do this I don't need a huge shop bill to repair a car like a Benz...I do go and pick their cars up and bring them back though ...Just be careful with people and how you word things man.
