Well my mom just had her hood repainted and that costed her $200. But then now we have a honda civic with a body kit and the whole car has that primer on it already and needs to be painted. And on the phone the guy said $150 for the color and then $150 to repaint it. I dont know but maybe thats just the paint cost?

ummm....what about the clearcoat to buy and then what about the time to wetsand the car and buff it. Something is wrong with that pricing. With the primer already being on i can see the cost being alittle lower cuz the prep work is done. But there is still some costs missing in that

I ment $150 for the color and $150 for the clear coat + labor. Thats what was said on the phone any ways. Cant i just buy the spray gun thing and do it my self? I watched how they do it on pimp my ride and it doesnt look like it would be to hard.

the hard part and skill is not involved so much in the spraying, as it is between coats with the wetsanding and then buffing it afterwards like the engineer said.. not to mention that you have to bake the paint for it to cureright. they only show you a small portion of the process on pimp my ride.it takes a lot of work. its not just spray the paint, clear coat and your done. there is really a lot more involved

yea and its not as easy as it looks to get a nice even coat and to have the right place to do it as well without getting overspray everywhere. Its alot of work. I still cant see a paint job being done for 350.

shooting that gun takes a lot more skill than just point and click.
I think engineer brings up a good point though, This is definitely a consumer beware issue. I'd suggest taking a look at some of this guy's past work. That will probably tell you why he quoted such a cheap price....without informing you of all the hidden costs he's going to tack on.
Better check your local BBB and see if this guy has any complaints.

Maco (which does a TERRIBLE job btw and i don't reccomend) does paint jobs (same color) for about 800 bucks to put it into prospective... that is a crappy primer, crappy paint, quick run through of spraying, crappy clear and a half @$$ sand and buff job... all that costs 800 bucks for a DECENT paint job you are looking at 1500-2000 bucks for same color. for a GOOD paint job of the same color its between 1800-2200 i'd say for same color. these prices depending on what kind of primer, what color you go with (example: corvette red will be a lot more expensive than ford escort red), if any metalic in it, if any flake in it, quality of clear, labor, prep, sanding, wet sanding, compound, buffing... there is a LOT that goes into a paint job.

yeah, for a whole car look around 1500, or prolly less if you get a list of the things, buy them yourself and just let the people do the labor, which is what im gonna do for my clipse to lower it to around 800 - 1000
