There will always be the people who enlisted in the military to JUST get college money... which is a bass ackwards plan in my opinion. When it comes time for them to fulfill their obligations, this is what happens. You get the asses who cannot even wear their uniform straight, let alone act like they belong in one. When I see the people wearing their uniforms in public, 99% of the time they look jacked up, they can't press their shirts, they can't pin on their awards straight, and their shoes look worse than mine did after two weeks in the field. I have seen so many people with such a lack of respect for the uniform which to me meant and still means so much. I appals me to see some of the delinquents we have representing this country so they can go to college on the governments dime. So if anyone is thinking of enlisting in the military, it's not just a t-shirt or boonie hat you get in the mail, it's not just a free ride through college, and it sure as hell isn't a place for you to come across some military issue items so you can impress your friends. It's a heritage, a way of life, a matter of pride, and the most importantly is DISCIPLINE. I think the Marines slogan should apply to all who enlist or become commissioned.....The few, the proud, The United States Armed Forces.

I'm sorry but have you even been in any service Maximus? You guys act like this is all a joke... I'd like to see any one of you spend 7 months underwater with no natural sunlight, no fresh air, no fresh water. Lights out and people up tight as a single sound can get you killed... I'm sorry but when people like him run around and merely get "discharged" for mental instability to be arrested later??? He should have been tried under the UCMJ and taken to courts martial. Even better try him on Iraqi soil let THEM dole out punishment as tehy would one of their own. His acts were disgusting (If you haven't read the story about what happened then you need to). But the governments reaction in the matter is more disgusting to me. THAT is the reason I am ashamed of our services.

A joke? Who the hell is treating the war on terrorism as a joke? I certainly dont, but I know there are alot of us that dont take this situation seriously enough! If the guy(s) accused are guilty, they need to be punished accordingly! Have I ever been in the service of this great country? I have not only been in the USMC & left that with an Honorable Discharge,Good Conduct medal,& Meritorius Mast accomadation,I have also been in the US Naval Reserve AND the DOD (Dept. of Defense).Any more questions about whether this is a joke

Would you like a bigger horn? Would you like me to start listing the awards I have recieved? Have you even thought about seeing combat? Seriously I could care less if you've been a weekend warrior. DoD means you were a pencil pusher most likely OR you worked on military stuff. I know PLENTY of people that worked for the "DoD". They ALL work at a shipyard. As for an honourable discharge... I'm not impressed. Means you left when your time was up. No injuries, no bad boy stuff to get you kicked out. USMC? That's fine and dandy Like I said just try THINKING about being on a submarine with no contact to the real world except the occasional e-mail that MIGHT get through or we might not even have time to recieve because of our location and required secrecy.

is it just me or does it seem like every off topic turns into a heated debate now a days?
