over heating, shogun 3.2 did
 

hi, whilst doing a long trip, our shogun overheated. since then i have just been driving locally and it has not over heated. my oil is black, water is ok, not lost any water from radiator. temperture starts to rise if pushed a little over 2000 revs, temperture drops back down when taken back down to 2000 revs. also blower blows fine when switched to window, but when switched to body, the temperture starts to rise again. and no loss of power. can any one help as recovery guy says head gasket without even looking (just so he could get the job of recovering me) and took it to a local mechanic who only had it for an hour and said he done checks yet engine was cold when collected it, also stating its head gasket. other people are saying dont sound like head gasket. please help. thanks

change oil for a start.
Rad and heater core flush. Thermostat.

I agree with Akzle, Do the oil and flush, Check under the oil cap for a cloudy/slime substance for water..check under the rad cap for oil deposits as these checks would tell you if your head/head gaskets are good... Let us know how ya make out on the fourm...Tks.

thanks for replys. i have just had radiator flushed and new thermostat and it seems to have done the trick. i have heat again too. it is annoying when mechanics tell you head is gone and it has,nt. i have had this car for 12 years and was gutted when i was told she was pretty much dead. happy happy !

a head gasket is not 'pretty much dead'.
Its routine maintenance if you keep a vehicle long enough.

A faulty EGR may cause the same symptoms as a blown head gasket. It could be a faulty EGR valve or glogged EGR.

I assume the engine realy is boiling, resistor R10 with bad connections in the dash often make the temp gauge rise.
