Default 1992 montero sr sudden loss of power

I hope I am in the right place? My 92 Montero recently started loosing power, and requiring a lot of pedal to get up a hill. I replaced the fuel filter thinking it may be plugged but no change. It starts right up hot or cold, idle is a little rough and the check engine light is off. This all happened almost over night. The other thing is that the exhaust system is getting very hot and smells bad, not like rotten eggs just bad, and sounds muted. I can fix most anything but the fuel delivery and control system has too many components for me to know where to start, and I just got layed off so i can't afford too many mistakes. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Could be a clogged catalytic converter.

I was going in the same direction, so I removed the cat. and it is clear as a bell. I also checked the rest of the exhaust and found no restriction. I cleaned the exhaust sensor, which looked fine, and cleaned the mas air sensor. I also checked the fuel pressure reg. and found no defect. I also removed and checked all of the spark plugs to see if there was something notable and found all of the plugs to be fuel fouled.
So what will cause excess fuel to be delivered evenly, and if my guess is correct, to be burning in the exhaust. This would explain the high exhaust temp. and bad smell. Oh yea I also pulled one of the timing belt covers turned the engine by wrench and found no missing or dammaged spots on the timing belt.

Could be your timing. Have it checked with a timing light.

I need to get a new timing light, hopefully today. The other thing I haven't figured out is on the sticker under the hood it says the ignition terminal should be grounded when setting the timing and I am not sure what that means.

It means that it must have a ground wire attached to it or else it won't work.

You could get the ground strap.

Default help, need more horsepower

i have a 92 montero and i recently rebuilt my engine and put a new catalytic converter also. i still don't have that much horsepower to climb hills or tow trailer. I'm wondering what i should do, does anyone have any idea what the problem can be?

Check the ignition timing, could be a air or water temp sensor, or maybe the Lambda sensor failing and making the car THINK it is to poor and injecting more fuel than it really needs. Scan it if possible.
