ECU Smokes
I have a 99 eclipse, it was parked and then started after sitting awhile. When we tried to start it, it smoked the ECU (smoke comes out of the plugs to the ECU) I checked all the wires to the ECU and they all look good. I am just wondering what could cause this to happen. I cannot see what is fried on the board due to all the silicon like coating on it. Everything else seems to be working, I do not hear the fuel pump when I try to start the car though. It is a non turbo, 5 speed manual.
Any help would be appreciated. |
Open up the ECU and inspect it.
|
I opened it up and all I can see is where the heatsink burned and it melted some of the silicon like gel.
|
So there are no leaking capacitors?
|
I cannot see the board very well it is still covered with the silicon like covering that appears to be about 1/2 inch thick. But from what i can gather it does appear to be the caps, but not 100% positive.
Any suggestions? |
your gonna need to replace the ecu.
|
You all think it was just a bad ECU then? Should be ok to replace it? Sorry for all the questions, just wanting to make sure before I put the ECU in it.
