Help, please: 2000 Montero front wheel bearings
Hello, people. Another durn newbie, here.
Bought a 2000 Montero Sport, 3.5L, a year ago, now with 186k miles. Seems to run great... I love it. Just got new tires all around... Shoulda' done suspension work Before the tires, but... didn't. The steering wheel still has a slight wobble at 35 to 45 MPH. Took it to a shop... he said replace front wheel bearings, and all 4 tie-rod-ends... $650 total. I've searched... seems like I can do the tie-rod-ends... A fairly simple operation, I think. I just bought the 4 tie-rod-ends from Pep Boys for $114. Also bought the 4 bearings for $65. Cannot find much help/advice on the wheel bearings replacement. I think there are 2 identical bearings for each front wheel... yes? Do I need a Press to remove / install the new bearings? Pep Boys will let me borrow the "Bearing Race and Seal Driver Set", part #27119, fer free. Will this be sufficient?... https://www.dropbox.com/s/z6v2k5blxs...0tool%2012.jpg That "click image" thing doesn't appear to work. Here's a link to a picture of the tool... https://www.dropbox.com/s/z6v2k5blxs...0tool%2012.jpg Where can I find help on this operation? Step-by-step instructions? / Diagrams? / Anything? Thanks very much, in advance, for any advice you can offer. Mark53 |
a haynes manual will give you a blow by blow. Old brgs can normally be driven out with hammer and punch.
4x4 needs to be torqued, 2wd just seated properly. |
Thanks for the reply, Akzle.
I shoulda' mentioned... it's only a 2wd. OK,... I'll look up a Haynes, or similar manual. Thanks. |
