Default No prndl lights? Is this normal

I have a 2007 outlander and the prndl letters don't light up. Is this normal ? Is there a bulb I need to change and if so does anyone know the procedure? I've already taken off a lot to get to something that fell underneath the shifter but I never saw any electrical connectors. It's all put back together now but I'd like to have some info before I pull it all apart again. Thanks

Do you not have the indication in the centre of your dash either? Cannot personally remember if there is a light at the stick on my 2009. Any stick light will require headlights on to operate.

Yes it's got a center display which works. I got a exploded diagram from another mitsu forum and it shows a bulb on the side of the shifter. Lights are always set to on as they are auto off. I just haven't had a chance to pull the whole center console apart to confirm
