View Full Version : Blow off valve
Hi just bought a 2006 evo mr and wondering what kind of blow off valve is best for my car? Dont plan on upgrading the turbo so I need one that isnt in excess of over the hp of the evo presently.... Ive seen some 500 hp and higher rated blow off valves but dont think I need that .... Just want a opinion on what is the best cause i rather spend more for something that is good then get screwed in the end :-) thanks

EMonz57 12-28-2005, 08:05 PM ok well BOV arnt nessesaryily measureding HP as it is boost PSI, a 500hp rated BOV could only need to hold 20PSI on some cars where as others may need 30+PSI. I would say the Turbo XS type H I belive or the Greddy Type S would be best for you since they are easily plumbed back into the intake as needed. other wise you can get the JDM MR DV which is just as good and is a cheap option. your car should be running around 20\21 PSI stock so they should be more than enough to not leak under load
tapnguts 01-02-2006, 11:51 PM I heard that the HKS sequential was alright. I have an 05 EVo and I just ordered one. It's the whole kit so there's no cutting I'm told. I'll let you know how it turned out in about a week. Question, The EVO runs 20lbs of boost stock??

yes the 05s run 20.5 stock the 03/04s run 19 and drop tp 16 at about 4500RPMs
as far as the SSQ if you dont get the recirc kit for it the car wont run 100%. it will have a bouning idle and you will get more turbo lag after shifts. and between gears if you let the cars RPMs drop all the way down it will stumble and nearly stall out
wicked_outlander 01-15-2006, 08:40 PM i'll go turbo x's....

Tail is a popular one... but everyone gets the JDM MR DV since its cheap and not plastic like stock it holds a good amount of boost, so no need to spend a fortune on a BOV ya know
Lil red 01-24-2006, 09:48 PM turboxs h with the recurliate kit works great on the eclipses. Couldnt be happier with mine.

for the money on the EVO the way to go would be the JDM MR DV
anko_kun 01-25-2006, 12:34 AM greedy type s or type rs is good also but more $$

EMonz57 01-25-2006, 01:38 PM the JDM MR DV is like half as much as those and holds the same max PSI that is why I stand behind it. Im all about saveing money and getting good modds
nevsky 02-14-2006, 06:01 PM im using a hks dump valve , and im running 350 bhp , in a 2001 evo 7 ..

you dont want a loud one. If you vent it you will make any BOV loud but it will make your car runn horrible so recirclateing is a good odea and that means it isnt as loud but with an intake it is very noticeable still. just search the BOV thing we have a few LONG disscussions about venting Versus recirculating and explaing what it means and why one is good and the other isnot
skyline 02-25-2006, 03:25 PM Plus if u want to go Vented u have to buy a this little regulator that makes sure u don't stall when ur ideling, so yeah it's definatly a good idea to get the recirulating kit cuase it's less headache.
_/_/_/bimmer 02-25-2006, 05:16 PM can you hear any of the BOV w/o going vented thats all i really want.a year or so i would like turbo upgrade,as for now i just want to hear that BOV sound if i have to il get the venting setup i dont want the headache.what BOV should i go wiht/what are you guys working with?

I am still on my stock BOV if you get an intake you can hear it just fine. people can hear it from a distance away still. I strongly recomend not to vent your BOV cause the car will still and run like ass and it will be slower and have more turbo lag.
The popular EVO BOVs are Greddy Type s or JDM MR DV they both hold boost well and sound better than stock. Just buy an intake and you will hear your BOV and youll be happy. I know my stock intake you could barley hear it at all and after the new intake went on I was surprised it was alot louder and the turbo spooled and sounded alot louder

with a vented BOV your car will run bad. at idle the RPMs bounce up and down. the turbo lags more after shifts it stumbles when you stop and nearly stalls sometimes it might stall, you cant go 1\4 - 3\4 throttle only all or nothing because inbetween the car bill buck up and down

check,no BOV .well why do hear BOVs on stock cars??? is it something for a turbo upgrade? and today was the first warm i got with the car. cruzing and could hear the stock BOV for the first time too some im looking itnto intakes im thinking HKS.

No you need the BOV but if you vent the BOV to the atmosphere you will run bad. the BOV releases air on our cars that has been counted so it releases it back into the intake before the turbo so that wa the motor still gets that air since it was already accounted for. If you vent you BOV it releases the air out into the atmosphere (not into the intake) and because you are not sending that air back into the intake and it has been counted for the motor gets extra fuel and not enough air which causes it to stumble.
That is why why you add and intake to the car the BOV gets alot louder since the BOV is rleasing into the intake. I Hope you can make sence of that
_/_/_/bimmer 03-11-2006, 07:44 PM who has a BOV thats loud and vents back to the intake??

if you have an aftermarket intake it will be alot louder than it is with the stock airbox...even the stock BOV is pretty loud. But everyone likes for aftermarket the Greddy Type S and the JDM MR DV (which is a stock BOV on the JDM MR)
_/_/_/bimmer 03-11-2006, 09:24 PM THANX, i'll get the intake 1st and see how that sounds. ok 1 more Emonz, would you say the Greddy is as loud as the BLITZ ???

I have never heeard blitz not many peole use them...Greddy is loud and whistles (same one from Fast and furious on the green eclipse) Except the green eclipse was venting
skyline 03-13-2006, 10:04 PM Blitz is pretty well known but I've never heard and Evo with one.

Blitz is well known but not for their BOV... Not many turbo guys use it.. I dont know If I have ever seen a car with one.
_/_/_/bimmer 03-14-2006, 12:21 AM this kid i work with has blitz vented, its loud as hell with the intake but he said it does flutter but "thinks" its just as fast as stock was. i just want the 2 hear the BOV with out any probs.
im sure if i get the intake i still wont be happy with the stock BOV so i'll give greddy a call at the end of this week if you could think of any thing better let me know Emonz

If you vent you will have problems... With an intake any BOV is loud enough to be heard from a good distance. Greddy Types S is gonna be louder than stock. as would any BOV even if it is dumped into the intake like it should. He is a liar if he thinks the Blitz is the same as stock unless he was talking performance. I mean you wont feel a difference unless you are running 21PSI or more
_/_/_/bimmer 03-14-2006, 02:14 AM Emonz you should start a soud clip post of all the exhaust and BOVs.

I dont have one for hte BOV sounds on an EVO...all I have is a video of my car with the stock BOV vented to show how loud stock it when vented but again the car doesnt run very well that way
skyline 03-14-2006, 10:31 AM Yeah, even with the mod chip that help stabilize the idling, if ur running vented, it still doesn't perform as well as a recirculating bov.

youll still lag and have some stumbleing...IDK what chip you are talking about most guys get and SAFC and learn how to tune for hte loss of air
skyline 03-14-2006, 09:33 PM HKS has a module that does the recalibrates the air to fuel ratio for u but what u said works too.

XTREME 04-17-2006, 11:56 AM Just some quick information:
I recently installed an Injen Intake system w/IC pipe and my BOV was much louder than stock and you can clearly hear air being sucked into the intake when getting into boost. My brother has a K&N Typhoon intake on his Evo 8 and you can hear the BOV but it's not near as loud as the Injen Intake. I can drive down the street and people hear it when the BOV does its thing. I also saw you pointed out the Evo 8 has a plastic BOV. This isn't the case for the Evo 9, it comes with a steel/metal BOV.

ya the EVO8 BOV is known for leaking boost over 18 PSI, on mine I can hit about 21 PSI and fall to 19 by redline, so A new BOV is needed in my case
