Hello I have got a 94 ply laser 2.0 non turbo From my wifes cozen and the car been seting sence feb 2004 do to a bad trans it would not start it would just stuble so i clean the plugs and gaped them at 44 and it started right up but smoked like a Hell but i though its been setting so it will burn off but it didn't, if you gas on it it realy rolls out the smoke but after about an hour later i cranked it and it didn't smoke for 2 or 3 mins and started smoking again then it stop and started again and didn't stop.

So i think it may be a sticking valve, what do you think? it did not do this b4 it was parked.

its your vavle cover most likely. its burning oil 4 sure. make sure the gasket is still there in the cover . most likely its leaking oil

 

The eng is not oily the smoke is coming from the exh pipe.

 

I think its my Valve seals Because i can start it up now and it does not smoke even after it warms up untill you step on the gas or turn the A/C on and it puts a load on the engine it will smoke

White Smoke: Caused by water evaporating in the exhaust stream.
Occasional puff usually from condensation in the exhaust pipes
(especially in humid areas) or a water balloon up your stove-pipe.
Continual white smoke usually from warped head/head gasket and coolant
entering your combustion chambers. If you're really unlucky, might be
from a cracked head.

Blue Smoke: Caused by oil entering the combustion chambers, usually past
worn rings or valve seals. Coast down a hill in gear with no throttle,
at the end of the hill floor it- if a huge puff comes out, it's your
valve seals. If no difference in smoke output, it's your rings. (I
might have that bass-ackward, so everyone feel free to correct me (like
the Digest wouldn't anyway ) High mileage motors can expect to start
leaking oil eventually.

Black or Gray Smoke: Caused by uncombusted fuel. Could be plugs,
timing, clogged air filter, air/fuel mixture, wires, coil, etc. Start
with the cheapest answer and work your way up.

 

It's sure not your valve seals if what you describe is correct. The Blue smoke example you give is correct if you think about it. Going down hill with your foot off the accelerator causes an increase in vacuum within the combustion chamber and so will suck more oil through the valve seals, especially the intake valves. Also if you see blue smoke when idling it's usually the seals. I suspect your rings are gone and maybe the seals as well. Do a compression test. Once without oil in cylinder and once with a squirt or two of oil to see if compression increases. Usually load on the engine stops leaks from valve seals.

 

Hello, I did a compression test today and the engine has 190psi on all 4 cyl, so I am still lost to as what is cousing this. It does not smoke a lick till it warms up.

 

Is the air vent tube on your valve cover blocked off?

 

I was told to do a wet test do to the compression rings can be good and the oil ring be bad.

wet test # are 1=240psi 2=220 3=240 4=210 turn engine over 4 times

Wet test # 1=270 2=240 3=260 4=230 turning engine over till needle holds steady

The dry compression test # 190psi on all for turning engine over 4 times.

dry compression test 1=210 2=200 3=210 4=210 turning engine over till needle is holding steady.

Air vent tube? you taling about the pvc valve? if so it is not blocked

 

Have you replaced the pvc valve? You could dump some NO-SMOKE in it and if that dosent help then it is probably a sticking valve or clogged pvc..

 

I have cleaned the pvc valve and the ball does rattle. I can blow though the end that goes in the valve cover, but i can barly blow though the end that the vacum line goes to sticking out side the valve cover. I think this is how its post to work.

As soon as i can find my camra I going to take a pic of it smoking for you all to see
