2011 Outlander Sport Bad Gas Mileage?
#51
Just curious if anyone feels as ripped off as I do? The best I can get is 10.1L per 100K and that is conciously trying to get the best I can. I recently drove 800km on the highway, no city, no lights no traffick. Cruise control and in normal driving mode and 10.1L was all I could get with an average speed of 87KPH. I for one bought this vehicle based on the fuel economy numbers presented to me. We don't live in the city yet I'm getting worse mileage than if I did? I'd like to know how fellow RVR owners feel about this. I'm paying $1.299 a litre for fuel here on Vancouver Island and I've calculated that it has already cost me over $200 to drive this vehicle over what it should have. Over the lifetime of it (200,000km) at the same fuel prices that's almost $10,000!!! I'm not okay with that. Any advice on course of action?

Hello Wesstons, I how have 1200km.... I own rvr se awc and have been using 2wd mode....I travel between revelstoke and golden around 150kms, at a speed of about 90 to 100km/h....computer showed around 7L/100Km, I like to keep a log of my mileage, which I calculate by filling tank till nozzel clicks off at the same petro canada pump.... then I convert to mpg...round trip is about 300km.....Monday I will be on my 4th tank.....so far I am getting around 42mpg and I hope to get 45 to 46 mpg, my previous vehicles avg. 2 to 3 mpg better than gov tests, when the weather warms up? I'll post my 4th tank results.

Hmmm, I can't even get it anywhere close to that! The lowest I've seenn on the display is 9.9 and that's while driving like I'm in a parade! I wonder if it's stuck in AWD or something. We just got back from Summerland and the best I could get there and back with the same speeds as you was 10.1 L! I also did my own caculation using the pump and it was the same. Hmmm, somethings up? Let me know your next tank results...

Just read an article, that vehicle mileage display are not accurate. The best way is # km / # litres X 4.55 litres per gal / 1.6 km = mpg (imperial)........ 100km/ 7 litres X 4.55 / 1.6 km = 40.6 mpg......fill tank till the nozzle clicks off. Just filled up ..4th tank.....Drove rvr over 100km/hr and with some brisk passing and only got 37.7 mpg which was close to the display reading of 7.5L/100km...37.9mpg. So keep it under 100km/h and no spirted passing?

You cannot realistically expect highway mileage driving on such steep and winding roads. Summerland, Revelstoke, and Golden...not exactly flat prairie. Maybe if you lived in Alberta and it was summertime/no wind. Most of the grades along the way would be illegal to build in most countries...you are lucky to get somewhere between city and highway. Plus stressing a 2.0L I4 to do all that work (especially full), will probably use more than the V6 Outlander would in the same conditions.

Yes the trip to summerland is through a mountain, but even from Hope to the ferry my avergaes didn't improve? I also made a trip from Nanaimo to Courtney and didn't get below 9.9L. The dealership wants to do a test on my vehicle and was surprised cause they haven't heard of any complaints!!! I sent them a link to this forum, hopefully they will take a look. It will be a couple of weeks before I can get them the car but I will post the results.

poor gas milage
I have just over 2000 miles on my outlander sport and the display on my dash say im getting an average of only 14 mpg. I have reset everything after my first oil change and am hoping it will get better. So far, I'm very disappointed. Also every time I fill up the tank, it only takes over 13 gallons to fill-up. I'm confused because all I have read on the car says it has a 16.6-15.6 gallon tank. Has anyone else noticed the same thing???

First low fuel warning takes place with 10L remaining (~2.6 US Gallons).
Calculate your fuel consumption by hand when you fill up for a very accurate reading. The on board computer is an "instantaneous" reading and not valid for the tank.

I've let it run down as far as possible after the warning, where it no longer shows any miles left. I understand there is a reserve but seems like a big difference.
