Default Keyless entry not working

I have a 2001 Galant Estate. The remote fob would only work if used very close to car (near drivers door) so I replaced the battery hoping it would increase the range. Unfortunately now the remote does not work at all. Any suggestions please? The red light on the remote does light when button pressed. The remote is the round type. In the book it shows a rectangular fob.

Try reprograming the remote to the car. If you still have issues you may need a new remote.

Thanks for the swift reply.

Just found out that the drivers lock when locked does not lock all doors so it may appear that the fault is more widespread. I have checked the central locking fuse and this ok. There seems to be a serious absence of enough details in the manual.

Would I be advised to get central locking working first before reprogramming the fob to the car? Also could you please direct me to details on reprogramming fob?

Yes passenger door lock locks all doors except for the drivers door. So, switch in drivers door? though this doesn't explain the key fob not working?!
